Attended studies at The American School of Modern Music, Paris.
Attended studies at The Musikhochschule Luzern, Switzerland (graduated with honors, 2003).
In 2002, he participated in the IASJ (International Association of Schools of Jazz) meeting in Helsinki along with 50 other students from various countries. The event was directed by Dave Liebman.

He has taken masterclasses and workshops with the following musicians, among others: Jamey Haddad, Frank Möbus, Peter O’Mara, Mark Turner, Glenn Ferris, Pedro Moreira, Simon Nabatov, Rick Margitza, Mark Soskin, Jeff Richman, Pandit Suresh Talwalker, Maria Schneider, Christy Doran, Wolfgang Muthspiel, Kurt Rosenwinkel, Vinz Vonlanthen, John Abercrombie, Nat Su, Hans Feigenwinter, Hans Feigenwinter, and Chris Wiesendanger.

Franz has received the Axelle and Max Koch Foundation’s Recognition Prize.
